A Little Break

It feels like I haven’t been able to post on here in forever! Unfortunately, as you may have already noticed from cancelled shows, I have had to take a little break. I mentioned a few months ago that I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease. Unfortunately, I developed an abscess in my bowel, which meant that I had to have an operation to remove it. This also meant that they had to resection my bowel. It was a pretty serious operation, but I’m pleased to say that I’m recovering very well and I hope to be performing again very soon (on the 29th October, in fact!).

Obviously, while I am recovering, I am not well enough to model or perform. I hate cancelling shows, as there is nothing more enjoyable and therapeutic than being onstage, but unfortunately I have no choice. In the meantime, though, I’m going to do my best to share some more photos on here from older shoots, especially shots that you may never have seen before!

Thank you again to all the friends, fans, photographers and promoters that have been so understanding during this time.

I love you all,

Violet

Pirates and Petticoats!

On Friday 22nd July, I will be performing at a pirate themed burlesque night in Hartlepool. You can find a facebook event for it here: Pirate Dreams Presents…Pirates and Petticoats. There will be lots of pirate and nautical themed acts, a Captain Jack Sparrow impersonator, and I will be performing a well known routine with a little twist!

2011 Clutterfly Model Search

I just wanted to let you all know that I have entered Clutterfly‘s Model Search contest! You can find my photo on their facebook page here: Clutterfly Model Search and I would greatly appreciate it if any of you that use facebook would pop over there and leave a ‘like’ on the photo.

I’m a huge fan of Clutterfly Jewellery, and I’m sure many of you have seen me sporting my ‘Violet’ necklace custom made by them at various shows. I think it goes without saying that I would really love the chance to wear some more of their beautiful stuff.

A Midsummer’s Burlesque Dream

On Saturday night, I took to the stage again after my brief hiatus due to health problems. I performed at ‘Burlesque Dreams Presents A Midsummer’s Burlesque Dream’ in Castleford and I have to say that it was an absolutely fantastic night. Not only did I feel well enough to perform, but I felt absolutely amazing on stage. I also met lots of lovely new people and got chance to chat to some wonderful people that I have met several times now. It truly reminded me why I love burlesque as much as I do, so thank you to absolutely everyone who was involved.

You can find photos from the night can be found here: Luck Be A Lady Performance Photos and Masculine Women Feminine Men Performance Photos .

Backstage/Outtakes

I thought it would be fun to add a gallery on here for backstage photos from burlesque nights and fashion shows, as well as any outtakes from photoshoots. Sometimes, a photographer can capture an entirely unintended image that doesn’t really fit with the theme of the shoot, and yet is just still worth sharing. From now on, this is where you can find these images!

Gothic Fairytale

I recently had a gothic themed shoot with Bill from BGPicture photography at Whorlton Castle near Stokesley. We decided to go for a gothic fairytale damsel-in-distress theme as the location provides lots of bars to reach through, windows to gaze longingly out of, and corners to hide in. It is for this reason that a number of the photos from this shoot were processed in black and white, to add to the theme of the shoot.

I’ve always liked the idea of the damsel-in-distress as a theme for a shoot, as I feel that it has a fetishistic submissive element, with the female subject awaiting rescue, and thus always creates a variety of interesting and evoking images. As we were shooting, Tennyson’s “Marianna” (or more properly, Shakespeare’s Marianna, who inspired Tennyson’s poem) kept on springing to mind, and although I wasn’t quite in a ‘moated grange,’ the lines of the poem kept springing to mind:

“‘My life is dreary,
He cometh not,’ she said;
She said, ‘I am aweary, aweary,
I would that I were dead!'”

With that in mind, I leave you with the collection of images that can be found on pages 3 and 4 here:

Health Update

Sorry to have neglected you all on here. Unfortunately, I’ve been experiencing severe abdominal pains for the last 9 weeks, which resulted in me having to cancel some gigs and eventually culminated in me spending most of last week in hospital. On Saturday I was finally given a diagnosis of Crohn’s Disease (please don’t gasp, it really isn’t anything serious) and I’ve finally been given some medication that seems to be working.

I don’t want to say that I’m back with a bang because it’s only early days and I don’t know how well the medication is going to work over the coming weeks. However, I do intend to honour any bookings that I can as I most certainly don’t want to let fans or promoters down. What’s more, both modelling and burlesque are things that I love and thus I’m not willing to give them up without a fight.

I also realise that I owe you all plenty of photos that I haven’t been well enough to upload as I’d previously promised. By way of apology, I’ve included one of my favourite images from my most recent shoot in this post and I will try to get the rest of the set online for you all very very soon.

Love as always,

Violet

Donne De Belleza Fashion Show

On Monday 14th March 2011, I took part in a charity fashion show to raise money for Breast Cancer Research. It is a charity that is very close to my heart and thus I was more than happy to take part. It was an absolutely fantastic night that raised £1100 for the charity. I was modelling for Silver’s Dress Design, a brand new made-to-measure dress shop based in Stockton, alongside my friend and Headline Honeys compere, Little Gem.

It was an absolute pleasure to be modelling such spectacular outfits and the hair and make-up provided by Gem has definitely presented me with a new look that I want to emulate in future.  All in all it was a fantastic night!

You can find the rest of the photographs in the album below:
